As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
PROVERBS 27:17
No disciple is without the need of help. That is why God established the church. We are to live out our faith in community with transparency and vulnerability, sharing our lives with one another, discipling, and being discipled, serving, and being served. We need each other. Ephesians 4:16 describes this beautifully
“…the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”
As each of us follows Jesus, exercising our spiritual gifts for the good of the body, we are participating with God building up the body in love.
Discipleship Groups: Two Models
Discipleship Groups: Two Models
COUPLES GROUPS
While their makeup may be different, their structure is not.
- Groups will meet at least once every two weeks, but as often as desired.
- The structure of the group is both formal and informal. The intention is that groups are “doing life together.” Informal time looks different for different groups but may include things like having a meal together, working on the car, shopping or camping.
- The formal aspect of Discipleship groups will take a high level of commitment. It could include memorizing Scripture, reading and discussing a book, and confessing sin. This is where we help each other live out the truths of scripture.
